The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Is Coming: Here's What To Expect

Feb 16, 2024

The all-new 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe is on the way, but what can you expect? Here's what we know.

Twenty years ago, if you'd have asked gearheads to predict some of the leading manufacturers of 2023, it wouldn't be unfair to say that Hyundai probably wouldn't have been anywhere close to the apex of the list, but the South Korean manufacturer has truly been on fire in recent times, blazing a trail to the top of the automotive tree, especially in the EV field. Cars such as the already-iconic Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6, and concepts like the N Vision 74 have captured the hearts and minds of consumers with their wonderful practicality and eye-catching design, and now, Hyundai have turned their focus to the Santa Fe nameplate.

The Santa Fe is one of the manufacturer's older nameplates still in production, first finding its way to the market in the year 2000, but 2024 will mark a new dawn for the car with it getting the modern Hyundai treatment. An all-new design has, once again, caught the imagination of the public and journalists alike, but what can we expect from this new SUV? Will it match up to the quality of its stablemates, and how about other cars of its class? Here's what we know.

The design of the Hyundai Santa Fe is completely fresh for 2024, and when we say fresh, we really mean it. The car has had a complete redesign carrying almost nothing of the previous generation over for the next other than the badge and nameplate, and boy are we glad of that. While the 2023 Santa Fe was by no means a bad-looking car, the 2024 stands out from the crowd in the SUV market, with Hyundai utilizing their now-familiar fusion of futuristic and retro styling techniques.

The new car is gloriously boxy with sharp angles and edges everywhere, a beautifully clean front fascia design, unique headlights, and a prominent Hyundai emblem fixed upon the hood; this is a manufacturer confident in its own identity. The grille of the 2024 Santa Fe has been severely shrunken, with its design echoing that of an electric vehicle now, something we think may have been done purposely by Hyundai's design team in this transitional period for the automotive world.

Internally, the Santa Fe is just as impressive and just as boxy, more reminiscent of something like a modern Range Rover or Land Rover Defender in its style. You can expect plenty of storage room, beautiful high-quality materials, and a good deal of technology too (more on that later).

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe will be offered with a satisfactory variation of engine and performance options, offering enough to cater to most needs. The SUV will come as standard with a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four power plant, capable of producing 277 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque and going from 0-60 mph in 8.0 seconds, ample numbers for a family-focused SUV.

The alternative North American option is a turbocharged hybrid inline-four. This engine offers lower horsepower and torque statistics, at 177 hp and 195 lb-ft torque respectively, but will be more economical to run, boasting a higher mpg rating due to its hybrid powertrain. Exact mpg numbers have not yet been recorded, but we expect the hybrid version to be a strong performer in its class.

Both power options are mated to a silky smooth eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to ensure a comfortable and capable driving experience. Additionally, all-wheel-drive is an option on the Santa Fe for those in need of a more capable vehicle in off-road scenarios. Unfortunately, Hyundai has decided to discontinue their plug-in hybrid powertrain in America, which offered all-wheel-drive and an impressive 268 hp combined, but the options available should prove varied enough for anyone's needs.

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe looks like it'll be one of those vehicles that can do almost anything reasonably well, making it a near-perfect family car. It is available with three rows, giving it enough room to carry seven passengers, and, according to Hyundai, 26 cubic feet of cargo — more than other three-row vehicles such as the Mazda CX-90 — but, for those who decide not to take up this option, the trunk space is truly cavernous. Thankfully, all the rear seats fold flat too, giving it enough for owners to use the Santa Fe as a mini camping space should they wish.

In terms of technology and infotainment, Hyundai has excelled with the Santa Fe, offering pretty much everything the modern-day consumer demands in a neat and attractive package. Two large digital screens display the information — one for the driver displaying the gauge cluster, and another purely for infotainment and satellite navigation. The former is entirely digital, while the latter is, in part, operated by a knob for the basics such as climate control and volume.

We do not know for certain the connectivity options available in the 2024 Santa Fe, but we would expect Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to come as standard due to their ever-growing ubiquity. Some good news for phone users — so everyone — is that there are plenty of places to charge your device. The 2024 Santa Fe comes with dual wireless charging pads, and USB-C options too.

You may have thought that Hyundai had made all the advancements on the rest of the car possible by skimping on safety and expensive driver assistance features, but you would be wrong. The 2024 Santa Fe comes equipped, as standard, with a whole host of driver assistance and safety-focused technology. Those who buy the car at any trim level can expect features such as adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warnings, forward collision warnings, automated emergency braking, and more, as standard. It's a lot, right?

We're yet to see results of the Santa Fe's crash testing, but they should be available soon via the NHTSA and IIHS websites, and recent cars have performed well. The 2022 Santa Fe earned the highest IIHS award possible.

Details on the Hyundai Santa Fe's pricing for 2024 have yet to be confirmed, but we predict, given the upgrade in quality across the board, that the new car will have a reasonably significant price increase as well. The current entry-level Santa Fe, the SE, starts at a touch over $30,000 at the moment. We expect that to edge nearer to $35,000 for the 2024 model, in part due to the constant rise of car prices at the moment, but also because the 2024 model offers far more than previously.

We do not yet know when exactly the 2024 Santa Fe will go on sale, but it's definitely coming, and we expect it to be made available for pre-order soon ready for the 2024 model year, and we're certainly excited to see it hit the road.
